Our Story

  • How we met

    September 2011

I met Mayowa in September 2011, on my second week at the University of Wolverhampton. I met a guy called Gift, and told him I was looking for a church so he invited me to his church.
He also asked if i played any instrument so i told him i can play the piano. Later on he invited me to play after service so their choir director could hear what I could do. I started playing the keyboard but I wasn’t really feeling the singers. As I was looking down I heard a beautiful voice singing 'how great is our God', so I looked up to see where the beautiful voice was coming from, it was Mayowa, and her voice was just as beautiful as her face and body. I won’t lie, I got my act together and started playing fancy chords to let her know this guy can play the piano. After rehearsal we met and introduced ourselves and we clicked from there.

I have good friends around me but Mayowa would always look after me, knew my timetable and would always remind me of things I needed to do. We were genuinely goods friends with no romantic feelings attached. Every Sunday I would force my flatmate (Deji) to go to her accommodation to wash our clothes (it was free) even if we didn't have anything to wash we would go because she was such fun to be around. There were times when Mayowa will come to my flat and I will take my keyboard to the living room and we would sing and play the keyboard for over 3 hours. If only we knew what God was preparing us for.

Anyway to cut the long story short, after university we stopped talking in 2014 for no reason, I guess life just happened. Fast forward to December 2015 my long lost friend called me and we spoke like we had never stopped speaking and continued where we left off. Every few weeks she would call me for us to pray together and for me to pray for her new job and that was it.

On 7 July 2017 we spoke again after a wedding I attended in London and we agreed to meet the day after. As soon as I saw her come out of the house, something in me told me this is it. We started to speak more and I began to see everything I valued in a woman. December 2017 I asked her to be my girlfriend.

I knew I wanted her to be my wife when I was in a difficult season of my life. Mayowa helped me hold myself together. I have never seen anyone who would hold me, stand by me, pray for me and make sure I maintained my purity and always reminded me why I should always put God first. Oh, by the way her body is just too much and with her beauty on top!! what else do I need that I don’t have in Mayowa. So I decided, I need to secure this amazing woman ASAP!

Planning the proposal took me about three months. A lot of driving back and forth from Northampton to London and working with her cousin (Modupe) and her close friend (Wura). I wanted to give her the best ring that would cost me because she’s worth it. I redesigned the ring myself and incorporated symbols that signifies our process.

Before the month of the proposal, I told her we had been invited to a friends wedding which I would like us both to attend. On the day of the proposal her dress hadn’t arrived and I was panicking but had to stay calm down so as to not tip her off. I went into my car like God what is happening and got one of my friends to pray with me. They said the dress was to arrive on Monday which meant she won’t be wearing the dress I wanted her to wear. Luckily she ordered another dress which arrived at 1.00pm on the day of the proposal. I was became happy and hyped about the proposal again. As we set off to go to the venue (Hill Garden Pergola) my heart began to race. I was confident but yet scared. My fiancé did not have any idea that one of her closest friends (Trevor) had enlisted 3 of her amazing friends (Tayo, Mena & Funmi) with great vocals were there with her cousin Modupe, her close friend Wura and Deji. As we were walking towards the garden she started asking questions like 'where are the Africans at this wedding', 'I haven’t seen any African wear', she even went on to say if there is no ayamase at this wedding she was going to fight me. I told her don’t worry there is better food. As we were walking closer to the spot she began to hear voices and was wondering what was going on and as we got closer with anticipation, she saw one of the singers and screamed. This was one of the best moments of my life as I saw the woman that I love overwhelmed with joy and happiness that she started crying. It was a very emotional moment for both of us. I got on my knees and let her know how much I love her and why I wanted to be with her. ladies and gentlemen my long time friend said YES to me and that was the best feeling I have had to date.

Who would have ever thought that my long time best friend that sang and prayed with me will one day become my lifetime partner.

Wura

Hi my name is Wura and i met Maya in 2007 when i first moved to England for Uni. I attended her church and when church was over we were outside and I remember her telling me she loved my Baby Phat jacket. lol I knew then and there that this girl was going to be my friend. We spent so much time in and outside church and grew closer and started going out together in Newcastle. We've had soooooo many wild moments together and also milestone moments. Maya was one of my bridesmaids at my wedding and it feels so good to not only return the honour but to plan her special day. We've celebrated eachothers 21st, 25th, my 30th, I cannot wait to celebrate this day with you. I am so happy you found your prince, your protector, your partner, your soulmate and I pray that God never departs from this union. I love you both so dearly! The turn up is going to be REALL!!!

How we met - Was invited to her church when I newly moved to Newcastle. I wondered who the somewhat angelic voice behind the microphone was 😃 and now I can’t get away.
Fond Memory: as a student, we were advocates for saving our little pennies. As part of this I encouraged Maya she didn’t need a trip to the eyebrow lady, that I was very capable of threading her eyebrows for her. Only to leave my house with her brows bleeding and few strands of hair left. I did my best in convincing her she looked just great, even I knew otherwise, haha. Message for you and Sam - Be the pillar to each other, in all challenges and adversities, remember there is always light at the end of the tunnel. Work on your aspiration and grow together. Most importantly drop the hot eba 😀
Have a Happy, Peaceful and laughter filled married life. May God guide and bless you both abundantly with your heart desires. #SoyinLove2021 we move

How we met- Met at church TC (Chior- Sopra pra of life)
Memory- Our date at Wagamama in Canary Wharf! We shared our aspirations, future plans (you bought me a cute ‘Empower’ note book) and of course entertained each other’s razzness in public.
Wish for the best couple ever: I wish you all the joy that life can bring even through the tough times after the honeymoon period if over. I pray for God’s strength and favour, peace that surpasses all understanding in your lives and in your new home! P.s. me and the aunties are waiting for the twins and triplets to come.

Love you both x
